HMI Configuration (Slack/Debian)

This document will walk you through the steps of the initial configuration of a HMI.  The HMI needs to be configured in order to talk to a host server and perform correctly.  This process is the first thing you will complete after the BIOS settings have been saved and the HMI has rebooted.  You may also follow these steps to change the configuration at any time.

Calibrate Monitor

Upon boot of the HMI, you will be brought to a screen titled 'Syscon HMI Configuration'.  Below the title, and to the right of the screen, there will be a button labeled 'Calibrate Monitor'.  Click the button and follow the instructions to calibrate the monitor before moving on.

System Parameters

Below the screen title and 'Calibrate Monitor' box, is the 'System Parameters' section.  This is where you will set all of the parameters for this HMI.  Unconfigured HMIs will have a default set in each category.  You will notice that each category entry is duplicated, with one entry on the left side of the screen and one entry on the right side of the screen.  You will only change the entries on the right side of the screen.  The categories of the System Parameters are as follows:

Host Name

IP

Netmask

Gateway

DNS

Domain

NTP Server

Plantstar Server

Time Zone

Firefox Homepage

Follow the instructions below to configure the HMI.  To move from box to box, hit the Tab key or use the touch screen.

Host Name

Set the HMI Host Name desired/designated by the IT department.  The name can be a combination of numbers and letters.  Use underscores instead of spaces between words in the hostname.

IP

Set the IP address desired/designated by the IT department.  All IP addresses consist of only numbers.  These numbers are formed into four groupings, with a period (.) separating each grouping.  Ex: 123.45.678.90

Netmask

Set the Netmask IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the Netmask IP address is 255.255.0.0.  This should already be set by default.

Gateway

Set the Gateway IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the Gatway IP address is 172.16.0.20.  This should already be set by default.

DNS

Set the DNS IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the DNS IP address is 172.17.0.2.  This should already be set by default.

Domain

Set the Domain address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the Domain address is syscon-intl.com.  This should already be set by default.

NTP Server

Set the NTP Server IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the NTP Server IP address is 172.16.10.11.

PlantStar Server

Set the Plantstar Server IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the PlantStar Server IP address is 172.16.10.11.

TimeZone

Set the appropriate TimeZone using the dropdown arrow to the right.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the TimeZone is Eastern.

Firefox Homepage

Set the Firefox Homepage address.  This address will be set according to the PlantStar Server IP address.  The structure of the Firefox Homepage address will be as follows:

{server IP address}/shop_links_hr.cgi

In the above example, you would replace '{server IP address}' with the PlantStar Server IP address designated by the IT department.  For burn-in/testing at SYSCON PlantStar, the Firefox Homepage address is 172.16.10.11/shop_links_hr.cgi.

Save Changes

Once you've made all of the necessary changes to the HMI configuration, click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom of the screen.  This will save the changes, then automatically reboot the HMI.  Once the HMI has rebooted, you should see the Shop Floor Screen.

**If the Shop Floor Screen does not appear, there may be a mistake in the configuration.  To return to the HMI Configuration screen for corrections/updates, type the following address into the Firefox browser:  127.0.0.1/python/HMIConfiguration.py, or type 127.0.0.1 and click the 'HMI Configuration' button that appears.
