How do I troubleshoot an offline PlantStar 4.0 DCM (Data Collection Module)?

This article provides some steps to take if it is found that there is a DCM (Data Collection Module) offline / not responding.

Items needed:

  • Monitor (HDMI or VGA, RPi DCM requires the micro-HDMI cable provided with the DCM)
  • Keyboard (USB)

In order to diagnose an "Offline" Data Collection Module please check the following items.

  • Check that the DCM has power. Open the lid and look for lights on the IO rack and power supplies. If no power exists please start by fixing this.
  • Check that the network connection to the DCM is active. Look for activity lights on the network ports (switch and motherboard / pi).
  • Plug in a monitor and keyboard and see what, if anything, comes on the screen. You may have to power the DCM off and then on with the monitor plugged in. If there is nothing on the screen this could indicate a problem with the motherboard or pi. If you haven't already done so, power cycle the DCM and see what appears. Make sure the monitor is set for the correct (VGA / HDMI) input.
  • If there is an error on the screen please take a picture of the error and send to support@syscon-intl.com
  • If there continues to be no display after a power cycle please use the link PlantStar RMA Link to start a new RMA Request. You will need pictures of the IO rack and the motherboard or pi device.
  • Please send all support requests to Customer Support Email
