What is the HMI Discovery and Registration feature in PlantStar and how should I use it?
There is a new (as of May 2025) feature in PlantStar 4.0 that allows for automatic discovery and registration of a new (or reset) SYSCON HMI placed on the network. It works in the following fashion:
1) Plug in your HMI and make sure it's on the same network as your PlantStar server (or that your network repeats mdns packets across subnets).
2) Turn on the HMI and allow it to boot. When it's fully booted you will see a message on the screen indicating a hostname. The message on the screen will say "My Name Is" and then display the hostname beneath this message. Note this hostname down and the location of the HMI. You will need this when adding the HMI to PlantStar.
3) Go to your PlantStar web interface and open the HMI Browse page.
4) Click the "Create HMI" button near the top right of the screen.
5) Select the HMI you have just installed (or one of them) from the dropdown that says "Discovered HMIs" and click the green "Save" button.
6) Click on the IP address of the newly created HMI
Fill out the various fields with the configuration that you desire and click "Save"
7) You have now stored the HMI configuration in PlantStar and can re-configure the HMI from the same screen by selecting it from the list of HMIs.
